GROSSE POINTE FARMS — They all had their own creative visions and worked independently of each other, but the nearly two dozen designers and design firms that worked on the Junior League of Detroit Designers’ Show House knew enough not to upstage Mother Nature.

Whether incorporating soothing shades of blue and green or embracing leaf and bird motifs, the natural world comes alive inside the walls of this magnificent lakefront home, and designers were quick to let the home’s many windows — with their views of the gardens and Lake St. Clair — take center stage.

The 2010 biennial Show House, a nearly 6,500-square-foot, stone-clad French Normandy-style home built in 1928, is located at 78 Lake Shore in the Farms and is open for tours May 1-16. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit JLD, whose programs include combating childhood illiteracy in Detroit.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Vervain’s Barry Dixon Fabric Launch

Here’s a behind-the-scenes shot which is magazine-worthy in itself taken during the Vervain shoot

It’s official: Barry Dixon’s new line of fabrics for Vervain has officially launched — in the form of a feature in Traditional Home’s latest issue, a launch party at Charlie Palmer Steak last night, and a presentation in the J. Lambeth Showroom of the Washington Design Center.

Full coverage of the launch was provided on the blog of Jennifer Sergent. Native Washingtonian. Former editor at Washington Spaces magazine and HGTV. She is currently searching for – and writing about – DC’s design voices.

Welcome!

Welcome to The 2010 Christ Church Grosse Pointe Antiques Show

The Christ Church Antiques Show celebrates its 26th year as one of the Midwest’s most prestigious collecting events, featuring over 30 professional dealers who offer a vast range of inventories and price points on items from a broad range of designs, periods, and regions in a fully vetted show.
The show opens on Thursday, June 3 with a Preview Party and Silent Auction and runs through Sunday, June 6, 2010. This year’s Silent Auction highlights a range of items including a luxury trip to Rome with accommodations at Excelsior Hotel, named to Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List. Additional items up for auction will be found at the show website.
Renowned Interior Designer Barry Dixon is the 2010 featured lecturer. Mr. Dixon is an interior designer practicing in the Virginia countryside near Washington, DC, who has taken his own brand of warmly hospitable Southern design style to projects around the world. A childhood spent abroad in exotic locales such as India, South Africa & French Polynesia affords his work a global perspective. Multiple magazine pictorials (Southern Accents, Veranda, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, Traditional Home) as well as numerous television appearances (Good Morning America, HGTV) have spurred the success of his furniture line with Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth. Recent accomplishments include a rug collection with Megerian and a newly-launched fabric collection for Vervain/S. Harris. His new book Barry Dixon Interiors is his first and will be signed immediately following the lecture on Friday, June 4.
Saturday, June 5, brings an appraisal clinic as well as a docent-led tour of the historic church highlighting the current restoration of the stained and leaded glass windows. Throughout the  show weekend, the Angel Cafe will offer light fare. A free shuttle on Friday and Saturday will enable guests to visit some of the area’s most renowned restaurants.
The Christ Church Antiques Show raises funds to support Music and Outreach at Christ Church Grosse Pointe. It is an educational and collecting event where ideas, expertise, and passion for antiques, music, and culture can flourish.
